We're All In This Together: How Soccer Can Rebuild the World
A Talk by Mike Geddes (Co-Founder & CEO, The Third Half)
About this Talk
This talk examines how soccer can build the leaders the world needs both on and off the field.
The impact of COVID-19 has shown us that if we are going to solve the biggest challenges facing our society, we have to work together. We have to be on the same team.
There is already a plan for this, by the way. The UN created the Sustainable Development Goals to be a roadmap for working together to save the world. The problem is, very few people know what they are, or why they should care.
This talk explores how soccer is one of the most powerful vehicles for education both at home and overseas. Mike Geddes has spent 20 years working in social impact and education across the globe and these experiences led him to create the third half, which uses soccer as a platform to broaden horizons, change perspectives and create Global Citizens who are defined by 21st Century Learning Skills like grit, empathy and conscious leadership.
It also explores how stepping out of your comfort zone, challenging yourself and gaining perspective into other's experiences can elevate your game on the field.
During the talk Mike will draw on his own experiences working with in South Africa, India, Kenya, Mozambique, China, Tanzania, Cambodia and many other countries as well as talking about some of the successful outcomes of third half programs
